                                                                       Seaside 2016

Was really glad I took this side trip. Although it was off-season, there were still enough people around to make the site-seeing interesting. The locals are friendly and accomodating. On my drive into Seaside from Portland, I noticed a very lengthy motorcade heading in the opposite direction. I later learned from the hotel clerk that a memorial was taking place for a local police officer who died in the line of duty the week prior. It was the first incident of it's kind in the little town, according to the clerk. The Promenade was actually more crowded than I expected it to be and there are a dozen little variety shops inside. Grandma brought us to Seaside during a 1980 road trip. I'd been visiting from NYC. Of course it amazed me back then to see guys wearing REAL cowboy hats! -OTA
